This quarter, Indonesia was reminded that disasters are not only caused by extreme weather, but also by what was neglected long before the rain. After Cyclone Senyar, floods and landslides devastated parts of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, cutting off communities and destroying livelihoods. The impact points to a bigger truth: resilience depends on prevention as a system, where land use, waterways, and waste management are addressed together, not separately.
