Lombok Project
In the coastal region of Lembar, Lombok, plastic pollution threatens sensitive mangrove ecosystems and the well-being of nearby communities. With limited access to formal waste infrastructure, much of the area’s plastic waste ends up in the environment, harming both biodiversity and livelihoods.

Through our partnership with Indonesia Biru Foundation (IBF) and local environmental leader Andre Saputra, this project supports plastic recovery through regular coastal and mangrove cleanups, while also improving community waste collection systems. The project builds local capacity for long-term impact through education and active participation.
Plastic is sorted and processed at nearby facilities, ensuring responsible handling and measurable reduction of ocean-bound waste. In addition to environmental efforts, IBF offers eco-tourism programs such as mangrove tours and kayaking experiences, helping raise awareness while creating alternative income for the local community.
The project has also gained support through collaborations with international organizations and academic institutions, including TU Delft and other global partners. Together, we’re combining science, community action, and sustainable tourism to protect one of Indonesia’s most important coastal habitats.
